Replacement of Missing Teeth
Each tooth has a job to do, by providing opposing forces to surrounding teeth and stabilizing the bite. Tooth loss has a “domino effect”. If a missing tooth is not replaced, over time, surrounding teeth will move and shift into the empty space in the absence of necessary opposing forces. This process can eventually lead to problems with gum disease, loss of jaw bone support, bite and jaw dysfunction or additional tooth loss. It is important to replace lost teeth to preserve your dental health. Options to replace missing teeth include:

  • Dental Implants have been used for nearly half a century to replace missing teeth. These tiny prosthetics act as structural replacements for the roots of lost teeth to create a foundation for a dental crown or to secure dentures. Dr. Booth works closely with dental specialists, including Periodontists and Oral Surgeons to coordinate placement of dental implants. After the implant is placed, Dr. Booth designs a natural-looking crown, bridge or custom denture to complete the process.

  • Dental Bridges are fixed replacements which rely on adjacent teeth to support a "false" tooth (or multiple teeth) and fill the space created by tooth loss. A bridge can be supported by natural teeth, or in the case of multiple missing teeth, may be supported by dental implants. Similar to crowns, bridges are custom-made using restorative materials such as semi-precious metals, gold or porcelain depending on location in the mouth and necessary tolerance to biting and chewing.

  • Partial or Complete Dentures When most or all of the natural teeth are lost, complete or partial dentures (or dental "plates") can be designed to replace missing teeth. In most cases, removal of remaining teeth to replace them with a full set of complete dentures is the last option considered. If all of a patient’s teeth are lost at an early age, this can result in serious conditions in later years. When dentures are necessary, we work diligently with our patients’ goals in mind to design attractive and durable dentures, and recommend stabilizing them with dental implants when possible.
